Pretty is better than smart

Couldn’t pass up briefly commented on this piece of social media trivia. Big surprise, people lie in their profiles. The conclusion is not too surprising, people will lie about their looks before their intelligence because looks sell.

This study is actually also interesting because it’s done by Intel and why on the earth would they care. Well, we gets our stats where we get our stats.

During the Repug primary season there was a ton of “elites” bashing, where ‘elites’ mostly meant educated and smart people. In all areas the public seems to like to bash smarts (or at least make fun of them, something you can’t do to other minorities). A great athlete, certainly ‘elite’ as well, is admired. Attractive people, also ‘elite’, are desirable and some people go to absurd lengths to emulate them. Rich people, another ‘elite’, are viewed as paragons of success. Rock stars, another super-elite, have kids drooling over them and following their every word on Twitter.

But smart people – ick!, they’re geeks and now they’re ‘elites’ (as an epithet). You’re using technology to view this post – quick quiz, who invented all that technology? You drive instead of riding horses, did a football player solve that need for you? Even fairly ordinary people (90% of the 99%) eat better than the richest and most powerful of a few centuries ago (and suffer less than even kings before anesthesia). Yet you hate smart people. So I’ve got an idea – go kill them all and see what your life is like.
