QuickReaction, Friday-4

Climate change deniers fooled a pop science site: I was fairly amazed to see this and, if true, it would be significant. But since I started from POV of skeptic it didn’t take long to find out that the “NASA” group publishing this “report” were: a) ex-astronauts (think military, then think what party they’re in and what fake news channel they listen to) and engineers, not scientists, esp. not climate scientists, b) their website presents absolutely no a shred of credentials or who is behind this report (what’s the matter, folks, you think you can hide Koch money behind secrecy), c) Heartland loves them (and perhaps pays for them), and, d) the only people who cite their report, except skeptically, are rightwingnut sites. That’s what five minutes of searching reveals, just think what I could find in an hour. So some science site was stupid enough to publish anything from a group like this. There is nothing wrong (in fact, it’s good) for sites to publish disagreements, when those disagreements come from principled people with some real evidence instead of manufactured PR. But to give rightwingnut propaganda any visibility at all is just being foolish, like “teach the controversy” of creationism as though that were a scientific view.

The foodist fadder attack each other: After the anti-meat foodists attacked red meat with their latest magical villain, TMAO due to mysterious gut bacteria, one of the paleo fad fanatics (and acupuncturist) strikes back (taking a few cheap shots at whole grains in the process).  Assuming one food fad faction attacking the other, but in the process revealing some of the many flaws in the “study” with the TMAO claims. But the same guy then turns around and distorts the gluten issue, desperately trying to enlarge the susceptible population beyond its tiny fraction of the public. I don’t think there is a lot of credibility here and HuffPo continues to demonstrate its sucker tendencies publishing anybody who can make noise. HuffPo is just silly with their fascination of nipslips and revealing clothes (who really cares, except those trying to get the publicity) but in the area of health they are downright dangerous.

What a pair! In addition to being dogmatic fanatics that no amount of facts would ever convince (IOW, just like FauxNews “reporters”) these two guys are boring. That’s the best they can come up with a good lunch. And it’s a big deal that a guy writes a book on cooking and can just barely tolerate prep, what does he think he is, the executive chef only and he’s too good for sous chef work. I could make a better lunch than they did and in less time.

Suicides rising, especially among middle-aged, should be no surprise. It’s a direct consequence of Repug policies to impoverish the middle class. The prospect of living in poverty in later years of life (having avoided it earlier) is just too much. Plus how many of these are due to the inevitable spate of illnesses that occur in that age bracket and then with inadequate insurance and/or the threat of bankruptcy at 55. No it’s entirely understandable and let’s stop dancing around it, it’s the policy of the land, to get rid of people past their prime unless they’re rich. We don’t want to have to pay for these peoples’ retirement and medical care, so this is just Ryan budget cutting at work. And, the rest of us, should stop seeing this choice (suicide) as irrational because instead of living in desperate third world conditions in a country that glorifies greed, just get it over with.

Simple demonstration of delusional thinking. While a trivial and potentially not very accurate study this does show that people actually just believe what they want to believe and pay no attention to evidence, even of their own senses. The raging debate of vaccination in Swansea shows the same stupidity of the public and how they’ll believe a discredited attention-seeking sociopath over the scientific establishment. It’s no surprise that Oregon, ground zero of the localism movement is also the home of the most vaccination deniers and soon the next epidemic. Leftie denialism drives me crazier than rightwingnut denialism because lefties should know better.
