Good news on the Net

The actual news these days is so awful so I’ve burned out reading about how the religinuts and baggers are taking over the country. Is there any story where the bad guys aren’t winning?

So I did a search for good news (hopefully not finding a bunch of religious stuff since some translations of ‘gospel’ means ‘good news’). Well there are websites devoted to this stuff. And they’re nice. Some people do good things for other people. But where is any “good news” about stuff that really affects us: like financial reform, controlling greenhouse gases, getting religion out of our lives, having real freedom (not the power to control others that is labeled as ‘religious freedom’) and so forth. Do the good guys ever win?

I’m tired of being outraged all the time. I’d like to see the government, at any level, do something sensible for once instead of being prisoner to the ultra-right, otherwise known as the Repug party. Where is a decrepit bridge being replaced? Where is a new trail being built? Where is some land being set aside for the public? Or anything that might actually help people. Nowhere it seems. I guess the people who love guns can be happy, they’re getting their way, creating more death (I guess that means less people and so the gun nuts can have a bigger share). Where is education that actually teaches kids how to think instead of slavishly follow mythology? Where is the story about how women get a fair shake? Or that minority voters get invited to vote instead of refused?

Why does everything we do these days have to be both anti-people and pro-authoritarian? Why do stupid and totally false stories about health drive out scientifically founded stories? Why is almost all nutrition information stupid and wrong? People need to get healthier, do we really think expensive line-caught fish and free-range meat and locally grown (in what climate zone do we grow bananas?) is going to fed a growing population, esp. now that SCOTUS wants to force women to become pregnant against their will?

I’m sick of being outraged all the time – I want some GOOD NEWS, where is it?
