This blog covers a variety of topics: mostly recently – a set of photos over past twenty years and brief commentary on them (really tame); the tame stuff – some examination of the impact of social media on human behavior and development, some serious discussion about science stories,  some occasional experiments with baking bread, some ranting about the stupidity of most nutrition “experts”, tedious statistical analysis of my weight program, and lately about my fatal disease. Then it drifts off into opinion pieces on business/investment, esp. “high tech”, religion and its war on science, and the occasional times I can’t restrain myself and give into some politics polemic.

Now what could I possibly say about myself – what does it matter what I say?

Here’s what I originally said (in About) when I started this blog:

I live in a geographical place I don’t like, almost never do anything I want to do (somewhat due to the place), feel somewhat estranged from humanity (and don’t much like it, anyway) and wish I were doing something else somewhere else – pathetic, eh.

Some of that was true, sorta, but mostly it was just a bad day. I feel better now and find this writing has been a relief. It may not be interesting to you, but it’s interesting to me. But if you’re looking for a single topic with multiple threads about that topic, you won’t find it because I’m writing whatever strikes my fancy at the time I’m writing it. And there is a lot that interests me and I’m glad I live in a time where so much information is available.

Oh, I should play the popularity game and put in something more interesting so search engines will find me, I suppose, but I’ll stick to my purpose. Well my interests are mostly reading about and thinking about: science (always loved it), religion (skeptic), software (used to make my living at it, now it’s kinda boring), molecular biology (partial skeptic, too much reductionism), outdooring (except I’m now too old to backpacking, mountain biking, and cross-country skiing so now I drive my AWD to the most remote places I can find), cooking (except now it’s a chore instead of fun), wine (or, cancel that, can’t afford really good wine any more), photography (oh, used to do it when it was hard, now anyone can do it), and whining (always available).

Note: I often comment on my own posts (rather than update them) as I find some new information or have some new ideas about the subject. I’m not just trying to make them look like someone is reading them.

  1. I dunno. You used to make pretty good baked beans. Not as good as mine, though.

Thanks for stopping by my blog and liking the post on Homemade Rolls or Bread. It’s truly a delicious roll with a touch of sweetness like the Hawaiian rolls in the store. I hope you try it sometime and let me know what you think.

Thanks for popping by, liking one of my posts and even Following me! I’m figuring that I am the 1st Australian to come by the About page by the stat counter… mind you, according to WordPress, I’ve had 3 people from Ireland who fail to show up on my flag counter! All the best.

You had some interesting things to say in your blog. I like ideas that are novel and thoughtful. I usually comment, however, in my own posts with links to the original post that stimulated my comment.

As to the flags the ones shown on the About page are: a) fairly recent compared to the history of the blog, and, b) only a small sample of the visitors from Australia (the WordPress stats do a better job of showing that).
